Meridian Optimist Junior Shooting Club (MOJSC) is affiliated with the American Legion through Lloyd E. Hutcheson Post 113, Meridian, Idaho.
The Shooting Club is the major youth program developed and operated by the Meridian Optimist Club. Each year 60 youth are enrolled in the shooting club. They are taught firearms safety and marksmanship by 10 to 15 NRA qualified Air Rifle Shooting Coaches that are members of the Optimist Club.
Post 113 has a strong connection to the shooting club. Ross Hadfield, a Legion member, started teaching Boy Scouts marksmanship in 1962 and continued with the Optimist Club until he passed away in 2013.
American Legion Post 113 supports the MOJSC financially and promotes the club with tangible and intangible resources as needed.
A brief history of the MOJSC can be found at www.meridianoptimist.org .
